Good Winter For Emma, Forever Ago
Hey FMLY. I'm pretty astonished at the amount of people that have not been touched by the magic of Bon Iver which is why I've found this post pertinent to your indieducation. Although Bon Iver has not played a role in the construction of contemporary indie music he has given us a voice that very few other musicians today have granted. "Bohn-eevair," French for "good winter," writes completely honest and heartfelt lyrics that personally touch me in a way that recently I've only felt with Maxwell Strachan's The Histories and Mario Luna's Meals For Children - especially with the new song, Frozen Blood. So without going too deeply into story time, Justin Vernon, who is the primary force behind Bon Iver, spent some time in a remote cabin located within Northeastern Wisconsin with the intention of hibernating. Instead he came out three months later with one of the most genuine albums I feel that we'll see in '08. He has just wrapped up his Winter tour with Elvis Perkins and has begun traveling again - I plan on seeing him on February 22 at the Bowery Ballroom playing with Black Mountain. Go pick up your copy of For Emma, Forever Ago out February 19 on Jagjaguwar.
