Death Cab Will Possess Your Heart

So I don't know what the deal is with the new Death Cab song, but I am diggin' it. Although it is reminiscent of their older (and better) material in terms of the song dynamics, structure and lyrics, I would have thought that their major label, Atlantic, would have added a more commercially appealing song to the band's MySpace page. As a first look at the album, considering that Death Cab is a top five point on my all time favorite band list, I am really excited to hear the rest. "I Will Possess Your Heart" has exceeded my expectations and it the perfect song for Death Cab to release after the very successful Plans. I'm crossing my fingers for a Ben Gibbard project with Timbaland. Purchase Narrow Stairs when it comes out May 13.

The Dodos. 3/31. Soundfix.

So I went to see The Dodos tonight at Soundfix in Brooklyn and it was pretty much what I expected. I'll first say that I have been in class from 10 until 5:20 and had two hours of sleep yesterday, which did make me a bit irritable at the show as I stood alone among a crowd of strangers - and of course behind the tallest man there. The Dodos tuned, soundchecked, chilled and then only 15 minutes late began their set. The set of course consisted of mostly songs from Visiter which I haven't made myself too familiar with, but they were still very enjoyable. They did play "Men" which I posted earlier today and overall I was pleased with seeing them live (especially the drumming), but it would have been better if I actually saw them - during the entire 30 minute set the only time I physically saw the band was a single glimpse of the drummer, and I was standing close to the front. Actually, I'm critiquing Soundfix more than I am The Dodos, but it was a free show so there is no reason to complain. If you're familiar with The Dodos music, pay for tickets and see them live. If you're not, see them cheap or free and I guarantee you'll leave with their album in hand.

Question of the day: If Voxtrot and Vampire Weekend played a show together, who would headline? Of course The Dodos would be the opener.

The Fall of An Empire

I have never been a big U2 fan but their new deal with Live Nation is the latest sign of the fall of the old music industry. They just announced a 12 year deal with the super promoter joining Madonna as one of the trend setters to leave the traditional record companies and sign with a promoter. This, of course, cuts out a lot of middle characters and is just one more sign in THE FALL OF AN EMPIRE!

Does It Offend You, Maybe?

Does It Offend You, Yeah? is nothing new to the blogosphere, but I felt that in light of their recent album release, Coachella and their SXSW performances they deserve to be brought up. Does It Offend You, Yeah? is a British electro-rock band that has become notorious for their electro-grunge sound. Their debut album, You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into (Virgin), came out March 24 in the UK and is due for an April 15 release in the US. I would say that their hype immediately began with their name and then with the public release of "Weird Science" and "We Are Rockstars," the public became aware that this name had talent behind it. Now I have not heard the album in its entirety but what I have heard since first coming across them in '06, I have enjoyed. P4K recently reviewed their album negatively, and without reading the entire thing I'm going to disagree with it as I usually do. What I recently learned about this band from the iheartcomix SXSW showcase is that this is a band in the literal sense, they are guys with instruments. I believed that they were guys with laptops and maybe a keyboard making these awesome sounds. If you haven't already, check these dudes out, get offended, but don't read the P4k review until you've heard the album. Also, check 'em out at Coachella!

The Dodos Come To The 'Burg

The Dodos released their indie-smash album, Visiter, on March 18 and since its release The Dodos have become quite a hot name on the tip of many tongues and the subject of much lively discussion. Everyone from newborns to old rabbis love San Francisco's darling Dodos and if you live in NY then you can too FOR FREE tonight!
The Dodos will be playing Soundfix in Williamsburg tonight at 6:30 (L train to the Bedford stop, a few blocks north).
You can also catch Boredoms tonight fo' fuhree at Other Music in the East Village.

If you're going to Coachella, you can also catch The Dodos playing with the rotating family that is Akron... Akron/Family, or as I like to say Akron/FMLY.

Also a fun bit of info that Cameron just called to tell me about: U2 has signed with Live Nation. He'll probably have more to say on the matter so I'll leave that to him.

Tristan Perich / 1-bit Music

For me, Tristan Perich is the name behind one bit music...probably because I've never consciously heard it before. If you've studied psychology or how the brain reacts to music and sound, one bit music practices many of Gestalt's laws which I find exciting. If you haven't, don't worry about it or look into Gestalt laws on Wikipedia. Very basically and completely from my understanding, one bit music is like video game music (8-bit) but only written on one track so all of the beats and melodies flow together, like common fate. But don't take my word on it, I'm going to go do some research.

Edit:
"Artist, inventor, and composer Tristan Perich holds degrees in music, math, and computer science. Inspired by the aesthetics of these disciplines, Perich works with simple forms and complex systems to compose works for solo instruments, small ensembles and orchestras. His "1-Bit Music" project, consisting of hand-built electronics packaged inside a standard CD jewel case, probes the foundations of electronic sound. Perich's work has been played by courageous contemporary music ensembles including Bang on a Can, Calder Quartet, counter)induction, New York Miniaturist Ensemble, Due East, Y Trio and Ensemble Pamplemousse at venues including P.S.1 and Mass MoCA." Fleet Foxes Rule

I feel that right now, Fleet Foxes are that big small band that Death Cab, Grizzly Bear or Vampire Weekend once were. Their sound is so strong and defined that I am just sitting here waiting for the moment that they appear on SNL or some other late night show. Fleet Foxes is a band of five from Seattle and are fitting signed to Sup Pop, once homage to Death Cab and Nirvana... unfortunately not at the same time. Give them a listen, it'll be worth it in several months time when they're on the cover of Spin and all of your friends commend you for catching them at the beginning of their megaton wave.

Dan Deacon Added To Health Show

Something great just got even better!

Tuesday's show at The Market Hotel scheduled with Black Pus, Aa (Big A Little A), Health and special guests, just became a lot more wild. I'm not familiar with Black Pus but already a show with Aa and Health is bound to be a crowd destroyer - if the entire venue isn't destroyed first. However, Dan Deacon has been revealed as the special guest turning this love noise fest into a fight for your life.

Ticket's for the show WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.
tickets go on sale @ 6PM TODAY, 3/28 @ CINDERS GALLERY [ 103 Havemeyer St @ Hope St - 718.388.2311 ] but... Cinders is closed on Mondays & Tuesdays, so tickets'll also be available starting Monday, 3/31 @ GOODBYE BLUE MONDAY [ 1087 Broadway @ Dodworth St - 718.453.6343 ].

If tickets aren't sold out the night of the show I suggest buying them at GBM the night of and just walk over to Market.

FMLY interviewed Health last week at their show with Crystal Castles, it will be posted in the next week.

Also, if you're into Boredoms, which I hope you are, they will be playing a *free* show at Other Music on Monday night.
*a free show after showing the ticket from your purchased copy of their new CD which you bought at Other Music.

Stars of the Lid

So one of my favorite groups to chill out and do homework to are post-rock minimalists, Stars of the Lid. They take a sound that I can relate to as a mix of Boards of Canada, The Album Leaf and maybe a pinch of Sigur Ros. Coincidentally, they're from Austin which is my favorite music scene next to Brooklyn. Stars' music is a landscape of droning sounds, effects-treated guitars and an assortment of other instruments that create a dynamic and beautiful arrangement. Since their conception in 1993, the duo has released seven albums including a live CD and two split releases. Their latest release will turn a year old on April 7, but I say dig deeper into their catalog. This is a band that should not be overlooked.

Bay Area Forrests

San Fransisco has always been a great place for music but the Bay Area has been on my mind a lot recently. From Why? to The Dodos, a lot of good stuff has been coming out of there lately. My latest find is a singer/songwriter/producer/instrumentalist that goes by the nameForrest Day. If you are a Why? fan you will love this guy. Combining indie rock and hip-hop with elements of everything else, he creates a fun and dramatic sound that will have you swaying, rocking and just listening to his fast paced lyrics.

Flashback! Party Sequence

Another week, another installment of Flashback! Party Sequence.

This week's Flashback! Party Sequence is a remix that has a couple of years on it. Maybe you remember that band Asobi Seksu? From what I remember, they sang in Japanese. Well, a pretty cool guy known as Cassette's Don't Listen remixed that tight ass track "Strawberries" a while ago and I use to jam out to it in High School. Anyways, cry, enjoy, hug, love. Peace!

What's The Haps NYC?

Yo yo yo NYC! WHAT IS UP!
The city is warming up even if it does look like shit outside, but with that new Meals song that Cameron posted, my cloudy skies are f'sho breaking into summer showers of light. We've just got some more news in about college shows happening at NYU and The Sidewalk in the next couple of weeks.

April 3rd at NYU are El-P, Crystal Castles and The Cool Kids.

Fun fact: The Cool Kids listen to Vampire Weekend. So do I?

TONIGHT at The Sidewalk Cafe is Wizard Rock Night (all songs influenced by Harry Potter).
Wizard Rock Night:
8pm Catchlove
9pm The Moaning Myrtles
10pm The Whomping Willows
11pm The Malfoys

Fucked Up Fridays

Greetings blogosphere! Sophie here, your resident drunkie and creator of FMLY's new segment, Fucked Up Fridays. Each Friday I'll be serving up drinks the whole FMLY can enjoy.

As we approach the warmer side of spring here in LA, I felt the need to make this week's refreshing libation perfect for those warm, sunny days.

Smirnoff Blue Lemonade Slushie

1. Fill blender 3/4 of the way with ice
2. Gather Ingredients: Vodka (I used Smirnoff but feel free to use your favorite brand), Blue Curaçao, and either store-bought or homemade lemonade.
3. Loosen up with a little pre-drinking.

4. Fill blender 1/3 of the way with vodka.

5. Add 1/3 of the Blue Curaçao

6. And a 1/3 of lemonade

7. Blend until nice and slushie.

8. Serve in a margarita style glass and garnish with your favorite citrus fruit (for me, the clementine) or for you alchies, simply drink straight from blender.

9. Enjoy and I'll see ya next Fucked Up Friday!

New Black Moth Super Rainbow

In a MySpace bulletin posted earlier today, Black Moth Super Rainbow's Tobacco wrote:

"our new single coming out in may on suicide squeeze is in our music player now. it's called Zodiac Girls and will be limited to 2000 copies of clear 7" vinyl.

it will also be available digitally in case you don't get a chance to pick one up."

New Black Moth!? We can hear it right now!? Sweet!
Well after about ten listens I'm hoping that they break further out of their comfort level and experiment with their unique style of music for the rest of the album. For now this is very pleasing.

Mexico's Emo War

So in Mexico, emo kids are being beaten...

As many times as I've said that over the past couple of days I haven't been able to bring myself to type that and take it seriously. Although this is a very serious issue, it just sounds completely ridiculous. Daniel Hernandez covers the current event well.

"A bizarre wave of mob emo-bashings is sweeping across Mexico. The movement is being generated on message boards and social networking sites by non-emo youth who highly dislike like the emo look and attitude.

The spark came first in Queretaro on March 7. An estimated 800 young people poured into the city's Centro Historico hunting for emos to beat the crap out of. They found some. The next weekend it spread to Mexico City, where emos faced off against punks and rockabillies at the Glorieta de Insurgents, the epicenter of emo social space in the capital. There's also been reports of anti-emo violence in Durango, Colima, and elsewhere.

The question on everyone's lips right now seems to be, "What the hell is going on?" Been reporting this story since it broke, and we're looking further into it. Updates in the near future."

Save the emos? The next Darfur? The next Holocaust? The next mass genocide? I'm looking forward to hearing My Chemical Romance and Good Charlotte go 'Artist on Artist' via MySpace sponsored by Hot Topic about the issue in tribute to the deceased Hawthorne Heights member.

Here's a Youtube vid where you can watch some fights and interviews in Spanish.

Ghostface Killah

These have been floating around for a couple of weeks, but just in case you didn't pick them up anywhere else here they are. From time to time on FMLY you hear from a character known as the 'indie kid.' This character doesn't really care too much about great detail but you think he is cool, even though he's actually a bit depressing, so you'll listen to whatever he says. Lets hear what indie kid has to say about this.

indie kid: Charlie Brown is a really tight Ghostface song from the album More Fish. It went under the remix treatment several times and now we have this sweet cover art and remix tape. I like Ghostface, he doesn't fuck with Daft Punk.

Enjoy!

NYC Show News

Forgive me if any of this information is incorrect - I've just waited 40 minutes for a subway, had a bit to drink and danced for hours at Studio B to Health and Crystal Castles. In the news...

Columbia has announced their annual spring concert, this year it will be The National and Grizzly Bear. As a plus and minus, "The Bwog" has claimed that from a very official anonymous source they have heard the concert will take place indoors (laaaaaaaame) for $5 (tight!!). If you were at the annual Fall concert with Vampire Weekend and Clipse, that's what's in store - good bands, shitty obnoxious Justice obsessed DJ as filler.

If you've been in NY for a while then you should be familiar with the McCarren Park Pool, a legendary historical pool that has been empty for a couple of decades. Well...the pool is being filled but this hasn't stopped the concert flow! M.I.A. and Holy Fuck have signed on as the first confirmed acts this summer to take place on June 6. Tickets go on sale March 29.

Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Gillie Gets Down

This isn't a new song, but it definitely deserves more hipster cred than it has been getting. Gillie Da Kid's "Get Down On The Ground" will probably be my favorite legit hip-hop single of the year - if not for Gillie's fresh face then for utilizing maybe one of the best samples in hip-hop history...and for having the balls to publicly diss Lil' Wayne at the height of his career. Show off your knowledge of Gillie da King of Philly to your friends, you'll look well versed in hip-hop resulting in extra hip points.

FMLY Smells Dick

Why you comin home at 5 in the morn
Somethin's goin' on, can I smell yo dick

I've jumped on the "Smell Yo Dick" bandwagon and am calling this the song of the month? The year? This song is the "Umbrella" of 2008? Not to go really out there but could this start a dick smelling phenomenon? I predict that by this summer, everyone will be masturbating to women [or men] smelling dicks. Clearly, this has already become a Youtube epidemic, women and men of all races and ages are smelling dicks. Have you smelled your man's dick today?

New Girl Talk

Coincidentally I've been getting heavily back into Girl Talk the past few weeks, just in time for this news.

"After spending the lion's share of his time since 2006's Night Ripper on tour, Gregg Gillis is hard at work recording the next Girl Talk album for a late spring/early summer release." - P4k

The album is titled Wild Peace IV: Feed the Animals, Raise the Dead (Illegal Art/Wham City), "This album is going to be dense with samples like my previous releases," says Gillis in a MySpace blog posted on Thursday, "but I'm trying to give some of the parts more room to breathe. I'm focusing less on sporadic chops and more on having pieces of the album build. The new material definitely has its share of quick cuts, but it's less dependent on that style. I think it's more dynamic because of it."

I've been in Corcord, Massachusetts for the past few days so forgive me while I play catch-up, it's been an exciting weekend.

IHEARTCOMIX News

DJ Franki Chan, the founder of L.A. based record label IHEARTCOMIX, mixed a sampler for Scion to be handed out during SXSW - MAKE SURE YOU PICK THIS ONE UP IF YOU'RE GOING! This is what Franki has to say:

"This is a mixtape I made for SCION. It's for their remix series and will make it's debut during SXSW and WMC. They are making 500,000 copies and it will be available for FREE all across the US all summer long. I've been working on and coordinating this mixtape since August and it features 13 new IHEARTCOMIX tracks, 8 of which are exclusive remixes made just for the mixtape by Radioclit, Flosstradamus, Designer Drugs, Miami Horror, Mano feat Hollywood Holt, Tom Neville, Lies In Disguise and LA Riots and 2 other originals just for the mixtape by Acid Girls and HEARTSREVOLUTION. Those 8 original remixes mentioned above, we'll be sending those out for downloads as well, including an additional LA Riots remix of The Toxic Avenger."

Also a reminder, do not forget about the IHEARTCOMIX SXSW parties that will no doubt be the highlight of the entire festival.

Your Majesty Releases New Mixtape

FMLY's Your Majesty has released his new mixtape and first new music of 2008. "I've been on a complete block, this is the first time I've been able to express myself musically in about 4 months and it feels good," he says, "it's pretty short, but it packs a punch." Featured on the 16 minute track is Britney Spears, Hot Chip, The Spice Girls and Purple Crush from Brooklyn among others. Hopefully this creative flow will continue into many more releases before the summer. You can download the mix exclusively right here on FMLY.

Lil Wayne Goes Down Strapped

I don't know why there are so many new condom companies emerging. As a guy, I would never trust anything outside of Lifestyles and Trojan unless it came in an incredibly awesome color. On the other hand, I haven't heard about any illegitimate kids coming from [Lil'] Wayne so maybe if these condoms can stand the sex life of one of the biggest hip-hop/rap acts in the nation then they can really rise up, no pun intended.

Apparently there are condoms that play Christmas music.

And how about this for a prom dress?

Vampire Weekend on SNL

In case you missed it last night, FMLY favorite Vampire Weekend were on SNL last night kickin' it old school. Here's the taping of "A-Punk" which I have mixed feelings about. Stage presence I thought that they were better than usual but the sound did not please me as much as it could have.

SXSW is this week, if you're attending and are having trouble choosing which parties and shows to attend I suggest visiting Oh My Rockness for help.

Heartsrevolution Adds Drummer, Releases EP

Have you been wanting a proper EP from L.A.-by-way-of-N.Y.'s Heartsrevolution? Well that time has finally come.

On June 24 you can pick up your very own copy of Switchblade, a five track EP that will be released on IHEARTCOMIX. I've probably listened to it a good 30 times in the past couple of weeks and it really is incredible, I can't wait for the world to hear it. Also in Heartsrevolution news, they played on Thursday at Hiro featuring a new member, Prince Terrence from Young Love!
You can check out Heartsrevolution at SXSW playing a whopping seven shows/parties for the likes of NME, IHEARTCOMIX, Scion, Mad Decent and Vice.

Alright, so as much as I love Neil Patrick Harris, doesn't he have anything better to do than make cameo appearances in Harold and Kumar movies and act as Spiderman in MySpace minisodes?

Flashback! Party Sequence 3

Three Flashback! Party Sequence posts in a row!? Noah, you must be losing it!

No my friends, I am not losing it, I just love to party and I would hope that you do as well. Actually I was going to save this track for next week but I couldn't keep it from you guys too long since I've seen it popping up around the blogosphere. Anyways, if you're familiar with the work of CFCF then you must either be a fan or a real connoisseur of electronic music because he isn't a name very easy to come by. I have not yet heard a CFCF track that I didn't like making this one no exception, in fact, this might be one of my favorite electronic tracks. If you're a child of the 90's and a collector of new millennium music such as myself, this will be exactly what you want to hear. CFCF "covers" the 90's hit track by OMC, "How Bizarre." I have so many good memories tied to this song it's impossible not to like it. If you're familiar with Schneider TM's remake of The Smith's "The Light 3000," there is a very similar production style.

Flashback! Party Sequence 2

So here at FMLY we aim to please everyone multiple times, meaning if one person isn't happy then none of you are happy. An anonymous commenter expressed their dislike for my childhood flashback remix and I fully encourage more readers to do the same, otherwise I'll just end up posting not fun music. So lets do this Flashback! Party Sequence Friday right!

Of course, I'm not going to completely undermine myself and post a safe track like Basement Jaxx or nine Daft Punk tunes. No way, that's not my style. This african baile funk remix has a very homemade non-produced feel and I would completely expect and hope that this was made in a bedroom. The quality of the track isn't high enough to add to your bangin' Friday night DJ set at Club Cool but you can certainly bump this around friends and I promise you they'll go ape shit over it.

Afrikanner - Barney African Remix

If this song doesn't meet your desires, I'm very sorry, because it more than met mine when I first heard it. If you would like to have a song that you made or you think that others would like featured on next week's Flashback! Party Sequence, please email it to hi.noahklein@gmail.com with a 100 words or less description. Whoever sends the best song - judged completely on a matter of my opinion - will receive a couple of goodies in the mail. Please no Justice or Chromeo / 90s music remixed is highly encouraged.

Flashback! Party Sequence

It's Friday and you know what that means...another Flashback! Party Sequence! Wo0!

So who loves the 90's!? Well if you raised your hand then today is your fuckin' day bro! Growing up my favorite movies were Indiana Jones and The Shadow - but today we'll be focusing on Mr. Jones because tonight you'll all add this into your DJ sets and think of me. It's a remix of the Indiana Jones theme that to my best guess what made in Latin America because it has a very grassroots baile funk feel. If you know who made this, let a brotha know. Or if you speak Spanish, then maybe Artista Desconhecido actually is the name? Aiight, rock out and reminisce!

Artista Desconhecido - Indiana Jones

Also, if you go to The New School and live in Loeb Hall then watch out when you take the elevator tonight. I heard Your Majesty and DJ Ecks are gonna be spinnin' some hipster top 40oz up in that elevizzy!

Shy Children Make Great Lovers

Alright, so Shy Child is my electronic car music jamz while I'm home in Los Angeles and driving around at night. Whenever my peeps hop in the car they're all like, "Man, what is that fresh sound that i hear!? I need this music to breath!" Alright, so maybe they're not that dramatic, but in an indie kid fashion they acknowledge the sound and inquire about burning the CD to put on a mixtape to convert to a vinyl to originally press for their world-class collection. Okay, so they're not that dramatic either, but you should just listen to Shy Child so you get the idea. New album, Noise Won't Stop out May 5 on Kill Rock Stars!

Girl Talk Murders Seattle

I'm not too hip to say that I like Girl Talk, even though he now shares the same fans as Fall Out Boy - who I actually happen to have a soft spot for. I'll just flat out admit it - I [still] love Girl Talk, I always have and I always will - a week ago I would have told you that the mashup party was dead, but just from getting back into Night Ripper mode today I have been so horribly wrong. Maybe the mashup is dead, but Girl Talk doesn't mashup...he takes you through a timeline of your life through music - from Elton John to Smashing Pumpkins to Biggie to Grizzly Bear - listening to Girl Talk is like taking a walking tour through your memories as they associate with these songs. It's one thing to hear Justice with Chromeo - nobody want to. It's another to hear The Verve with the Ying Yang Twins. Anyways, I've had a sour taste in my mouth lately for Night Ripper, just because I think that I was bitter about Greg's success and what a fad he had become, but after downloading his live set from Seattle awhile back it's like I'm discovering him for the first time all over again. I highly recommend this download if you miss the good old days. Happy 2am everybody!

Santogold's "L.E.S. Artistes" Video

[FMLY's Your Majesty performing with Spank Rock, Santogold and Benny Blanco at the 2007 MTVu Awards]

It's going to be any day now that Santogold breaks out into the "indie" mainstream of MTV2, Fuse and the like so before that happens I'd like to publicly bid her farewell. Santi, at home you will always have your loyal fans and FMLY that have been with you for so long, when you're done in the limelight don't be afraid to step back down and chill with us. Everyone, this would be the time to tell your friends that you listen to Santogold before all hell breaks loose and she gets remixed by Justice. Today marks the crucial step in her career - Santi's video for "L.E.S. Artistes" (Lower East Side Represent!) is now on Youtube and will no doubt be received with the same praise of M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes." This also means that you should buy whatever Santogold music that you can get your hands on before the prices go up...she's like gold. Wait, no, Santogold!

Exactly one year ago just after the 2007 Coachella line-up came out everyone seemed to "discover" Girl Talk and no matter where you went Night Ripper was soundtrack of your town. Well it's March 2008 and I haven't heard anyone mention the name of Greg Gillis' DJ'ing alias in months - well with his new album in the works and some unearthed tracks, FMLY is going to begin the resurgence! Black Moth Super Rainbow

Black Moth Super Rainbow have been one of my favorite bands for about a year now. These days it is very rare to be able to say that a band is truly original but in todays music scene that's exactly what you can find in Black Moth Super Rainbow. In fact, it's hard to find anything that captures what they even come close to except for maybe a couple of Gary Numan tracks from the 1970's. Their album Dandelion Gum, which came out last year will take you on an electronic journey to a place you could never imagine. According to the band each of the 16 songs on this album are to represent a different candy-induced freak-out from witches in the forest. Although they are abstract, it very easy for almost anyone to enjoy. In fact, I've been listening to it at least once a week since it came out. As soon as I heard them, I fell in love. "Finally," I thought "music that can take me somewhere new but still makes sense to me as music". It makes sense that this album took three years to make. It's a difficult task to make such a electronic landscape feel so organic.

It's just strange I didn't post this earlier. Seriously, find some really good speakers and turn this shit up. Look out because they are on tour right now. These guys are surrounded in mystery. I tried to get a video interview with them but they said they don't grant video interviews or for that matter audio interviews but if you go to their myspace you can see the closest thing to an interview with them.

My Gil Mantera Party Dream

I just posted this over at iheart, you guys should get in on the info as well.

---------------

Ohio's own Gil Mantera's Party Dream have been a band that I've found myself quite fond of since catching them live in NYC with Team Robespierre some time ago. Their music is clearly reminiscent of 80s synth-pop classics, their live sets are decorated with over the top improvisational performances by the brother duo, Gil Mantera and Ultimate Donny, and I think that the video for "Elmo's Wish" looks a lot like Snoop Dogg's "Sensual Seduction" - what's not to love! If you find yourself at a Party Dream show there is no doubt that you're going to have a Dan Deacon of a good time. Coincidentally, you can see them live this Saturday at iheart's New Check Yo' Ponytail with Mahjongg.

News from the Sigur Ros camp this morning:

Sigur Ros and YouTube make a little bit of history this Friday (Mar 7) with the band taking over the entire front page of the site around the world for a whole day, becoming the first group to ever have a feature-length music DVD streamed on the channel, with their acclaimed 'Heima' documentary shown in its complete 97-minute glory.

All 12 available slots on YouTube's home page will be devoted to the Icelandic quartet for a full 24-hours, putting them before a global audience of hundreds of millions. The link-up follows the success of 'Minn Heima', a competition hosted by YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/group/MinnHeima) for fans of the band to create their own little version of 'Heima', using audio and video clips posted online. The 10 best entries, as judged by the band, will be featured on the home page, alongside the film itself, as well as a special message from the band, taking time off from recording their new album in Reykjavik.

Simultaneous with the YouTube promotion, the band will launch www.sigurros.com, giving away a free audio-visual download clip of the song 'Ny Batteri' filmed live in Reykjavik in the summer of 2006 as part of the Heima tour. 'Ny Batteri' is just one of a dozen additional songs not featured in the film that the band are intending to make available via the site in the near future. Information about the forthcoming album will also be revealed via www.sigurros.com…

Obama's Arcade Fire Continues

The Arcade Fire rocked for change last night in Ohio as they played in support of Obama. By my logic...if Jenna Bush likes the Arcade Fire and [very stereotypically] Texans like Bush, then doesn't that mean that Texans will vote for Obama? Well, hopefully.

And if you're new to this blog - FMLY does officially support Obama, as well as the FMLY BNDS.

Winona Ryder revealed that she is engaged to Blake Sennett, a guitarist in the indie rock band Rilo Kiley, at the fall 2008 Valentino fashion show in Paris. In addition to the surprising engagement, she and Sennett have been working on a film Water Pill and she'll soon start filming The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. Winona has had a history of romances with rockers ranging from Soul Asylum's Dave Primer to Counting Crows' Adam Druitt, prompting former BFF Courtney Love to remark, "You're no-one in music until you have feuded with me or until you sleep with Winona." New Teenagers Video

I posted this on IHEARTCOMIX today

----------

The Carolyn London directed video for The Teenagers' first American single, "Love No," was released via The Teens website this week. Filmed in a Brooklyn studio, the video features ten young faces - myself included - on roller skates, making out, eating whipped cream and just having a wholesome time. From an insider's perspective, it was a great shoot but I think that my eating a pint of whipped cream out of someone else's mouth should have totally made the cut. The "Love No" single will be released March 10 followed by the physical release of Reality Check (XL/Merok) on March 18. Until then you can watch an interview that iheartcomix previously had with The Teens while they were in New York.

Bonde do Role's New Cast

So as you should know, baile funk sensation Bonde do Role lost their lead singer/MC Marina a short while ago and have been keeping it up as a male duo since. Gorky and Pedro dropped some heavy news via a MySpace bulletin tonight, this is what they said, "we'd like everyone to welcome our 2 new MCs - laura taylor and ana bernardino... they're more than awesome, they're warriors (we've met them through a reality tv show we had here on mtv brazil, so again... real warriors!)." Hopefully all will turn out well, Pedro and Marina had such a strong chemistry that I'm crossing my fingers can be replaced and not affect the sound. Oh, and a fun fact, Bonde do Role means "jellybean" in Portuguese.

Also, thanks to all of the downloads you guys are doing from this blog, we're pretty much out of bandwidth. So if you experience trouble downloading older files in the next week it's because you enjoyed these ones so much. Thanks!
