Tonight At The Cake Shop
[i don't know who gilbert is, but this cake rocks]
Tonight at 11:45, the Cake Shop will open its doors for a night of free entertainment as it does so often. Tonight brings us Men & Women, Ducktails, Rings, Axolotl.
Ducktails is the solo project of Matt Mondanile (with the occasional live collaborator). Best described as poppy surf rock informed by avant garde music a la The SKATERS and Kemialliset Ystavat, Ducktails is the type of warm music that will get you through the Winter and keep you happy year round. Touching on the pop and the more abstract, Mondanile divided the set between a meditative, outdoors instrumental and an anthemic surf rock ballad (that was unfortunately cut short due to technical difficulties). If you keep up with Gorilla Vs Bear or listen to SIRIUS Blog Radio then you're probably familiar with Ducktails, Chris is a big fan. I'm very excited to catch Rings, not only for the young women's trio of awesome music but I'm mildly in love with Abby Portner (member of Paw Tracks, Drawlings, Avey Tare's sister, artist for multiple Animal Collective albums, plays drums, etc). Axolotl and Men & Women only sweeten tonight's deal, so I'll see you in the Lower East Side come midnight!
